This Week in Failure:
What I thought I was buying off ebay:
"La dee da look at me I bought a new leather satchel for my books and scholarly stuff and it was only 15 dollars yeah thats right I'm awesome and ebay is prett cool too"
What I actually got:
"Wtf. The pictures online made this bag look gargantuan, but it is in fact the worlds tiniest purse. I mean was this thing made for carrying around breath mints? How did the seller have the gall to call this thing a satchel? Dear God I basically purchased a wallet on a string. I have been duped, and its all ebay's fault"

A Note From The Management
The intense summer heat seems to have affected my desire to keep posting here regularly, so I've decided to take it easy here at Crooked Lurve until the end of the season. It seems that mostly I created this blog as an escape (from schoolwork, stress, and the like) and right now there ain't a whole lot I need to escape from. I probably still will post from time to time when it strikes my fancy, and I will still post regularly on my tumblr, the untold want. Enjoy your summahs, and I'll see yous back here in the fall.

Small Wonder.
The New York Times recently ran a feature on an absolutley darling little cottage in the Catskills built mostly out of salvaged wood. I am in love. The article boasts a slideshow of lovely pictures of the place that I unfortunately cant post here, so you should check them out yourself.

A Lyric A Day.
This guy on Flickr under the name Lukes Beard has decided that everyday for the year 2010 he is going to take a photo or create a piece of art inspired by a lyric of a song. Here are a few of my favorites:

Home
It seems like everyone and their mom is obsessed with this song. I think it's ok, but I really just like the video. I wish I could roam about with my friends all day.

The Summer Day
...I don't know exactly what a prayer is. I do know how to pay attention, to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell Me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

Roadtrip Please.
I wish that for just one week I didn't have to worry about work or money or pushups or rent or school and I could just take to the road. I want to head west to the great parks covered in evergreen where water shoots from ancient springs. I want to look ahead of me and not know where the mountains end and the sky begins. Instead I am stuck in one place, and I can't help but feel it is all such a great waste.(Image via square america)

Rosé, I Love You

One of my favorite things about Spain? The Rose wine and cava. Some of my favorite memories involve this delicious drink. The New York Times just wrote a splendid article pleading its case for the sometimes-derived wine.

104.
Last night, I watched the heat storm move in, stood at the kitchen window and drank a glass of water. The trees were black and singular, beat back by the wind. I don’t know what to say. I want there to be something to say, even just to myself. The wind whipped out of the storm and when the landscape lit up with lightning, syllables took shape in my head but nothing stuck. I filled my glass of water again.
There’s a way back. We tore holes and they were big enough to let us out so they are big enough to let us back in. There’s a skeleton beneath all of these— ‘things’ is the word?—things that have been happening. That storm. There was a language there and I know we both speak it. There has to be a way back. None of this makes sense. I’m moving somewhere west in August. I hope that is far enough away from all of this.

Craft Away the Boredom
In about a month I am moving into my new place, so I've decided what better way to spend my (copious) free time than making decorations for my new digs? I'm going to start with this garland featured on Martha Stewart's website, just not with the whole patriotic theme. Next, I think I will try tissue paper flowers or perhaps some typographic posters.

"The sassy woman in the saddle shoes is my grandma Lois. This photograph was probably taken in the 40's in Yakima, Washington. Lois always spoke her mind and was sharp as a whip."-The Sartorialist
I hope that when my grandchildren (if I have any) look at old photos of me they think pretty much the same thing

Mmmm
As you may know, one of the biggest things on my summer to-do list is learning how to cook. I've been trolling around food blogs lately, but all of the recipes seem woefully beyond my skill level (which I would say is in the easy-mac area). There is also the whole "I dont have enough money to buy food" problem. What else is new.
Then I came across these photos of homemade gnocchi on She Eats Bears and I've decided that by the end of the summer I shall be able to make this. I mean, potatoes, pasta, and maybe even a little bit of cheese? It's like heaven on a plate.
